  দুর্গাপূজা আমাদের কাছে শুধু একটি উৎসব নয়। ছোটবেলা থেকেই এটি ছিল বছরের সবচেয়ে প্রতীক্ষিত, সবচেয়ে আনন্দের কয়েকটি দিনের একটি। পূজা আসতে তখনও অনেক দেরি, অথচ তার আগেই বন্ধুদের মধ্যে শুরু হয়ে যেত নানা আলোচনা—কার সঙ্গে পূজা দেখতে যাব, কোথায় যাব, কী করব, কোন দিন বেশি আনন্দ হবে। ছোট ছোট আবদারও থাকত। তার মধ্যে খেলনা পিস্তল ছিল অন্যতম। আগের বছরের পিস্তলটি যত্ন করে রেখে দিতাম, পূজার আগে সেটি আবার বের করে নেওয়ার মধ্যেও একটা আলাদা আনন্দ ছিল। তবে ছোটবেলার দুর্গাপূজার সঙ্গে আনন্দের পাশাপাশি একটা অদ্ভুত উৎকণ্ঠাও জড়িয়ে আছে। পূজা কমিটি গঠনের সভা হবে, কিন্তু সেই সভা একবার পিছোচ্ছে, আবার পিছোচ্ছে—এটা আমাদের মতো ছোটদের কাছে তখন বেশ চিন্তার বিষয় হয়ে দাঁড়াত। বড়রা হয়তো বিষয়টিকে সেভাবে দেখতেন না, কিন্তু পূজামণ্ডপটি আমাদের বাড়ির খুব কাছেই হওয়ায় এই অপেক্ষাটা হয়তো অন্যদের চেয়ে একটু বেশি অনুভব করতাম। তবুও শেষ পর্যন্ত পূজা হয়েছে, আনন্দ হয়েছে। কমিটি গঠিত হওয়ার পর তো আমাদের উৎসাহের আর শেষ থাকত না। শুরু হয়ে যেত নানা আলোচনা। কে কী করবে, পুজোর প্রস্তুতি কেমন হবে, মণ্ডপ কেমন হবে—এসব নিয়েই আম...
